I have five senses which can give me happiness by enjoying and being happy with them throughout my life. Why should I be practicing healing and meditation as a means to achieve happiness.

Maya or delusion is all around us. The biggest victory for maya is when a person starts believing that they can enjoy all the pleasures that are present around by means of five senses. I would rather refer it as a fruit that has sweet poison. We taste this fruit everyday and enjoy the poison. It makes us weaker and weaker from inside and we get addicted to it. We start believing that this is the only happiness that is available. We sink our mind and our body into it. We get so deluded at times that instead of enjoying it we are addicted to it or due to over indulgence we can get into a state where we are not aware of one self. One such example would be when people likes going to bars and clubs. Before they realize they find themselves happy and satisfied as long as they are in the company for drinking and merry making. Hence now the poison has start working through them, they cannot focus on anything, they become like snail that hardly move (both mentally and physically) .The laughter due to over indulgence gives headache and rather enjoying they get angry and irritated.

Another example can be that person might feel happy when he starts late to work but on his way find that there is no traffic on the road and feels happy about it .Also, imagine a thirsty person walking in sun during summer is offered cold water to drink or even a person bitten by an insect and feels happy when he scratches his skin. This happiness is short term only.

This does not mean that you should not enjoy the pleasures around. My views are that enjoy everything that is around you but the happiness that you achieve by regular practice of healing and meditation is real happiness. This happiness is difficult to describe as it is something that you feel inside you and stays with you without depending on outer senses. It can also be said this happiness is accompanied by calmness and peace.
